Preimplantation diagnosis

This is a medical technology to check the existence of any chromosomal or genetic abnormalities in an in-vitro fertilized egg before it is implanted in the uterus. Generally speaking, only about 30% of eggs fertilized in the womb grow into healthy fetuses. Many fertilized eggs are marked by chromosomal abnormalities, and as a result they do not implant in the uterus, or if implantation does occur they miscarry. The aim is to increase the birthrate of healthy babies by diagnosing the fertilized egg before implantation and returning only healthy fertilized eggs to the uterus.
