Protein 3000 Project

This is a research project to elucidate more than a third of the total basic structure of proteins (about 3,000), with a view toward possible patenting of the results and the ultimate aim of genomic drug discovery. Promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the project was implemented as a five-year plan starting in 2002 combining the know-how of research organizations around the country. As partial results, the Riken Genomic Sciences Center released to the world a modeling database of some 6 million different proteins in September 2006.
