This is the nickname given to Sony’s SDR-4XII, a small, two-legged walking robot that also serves as the company’s “corporate ambassador.” QRIO first attracted attention as a bipedal robot when it “traveled” as a passenger on a Shinkansen bullet train, boarding at Shinagawa Station in Tokyo and getting off at Shizuoka Station. It is also equipped with a system for the integrated control of walking, jumping, and running movements, and in December 2003 became the world’s first humanoid robot to successfully run on two legs.
