| Abstract;In this paper we discuss the reasons why Mobile IP has not been successfully deployed, the problems that Mobile IP has, and necessity of a new protocol that supports mobility. Although Mobile IP is a protocol for supporting transparent IP mobility, analysis of current internet environment shows that: 1) Mobility is not important because of a lack of network infrastructure, 2) There are few applications that make effective use of mobility. Also analysis of Mobile IP architecture shows that: 1) Providing Home Agent and Home Address face some difficulties, 2) It conflicts with the current internet security mechanisms such as firewalls. It is probable that mobile users will come to need mobility in the near future by the evolution of network environment. Still the problems that Mobile IP has will leave. Thus the deployment of Mobile IP will not happen without changing its architecture. (author abst.) |
