Abstract;p-tert-Butylthiacalix[4]arene, cyclic tetramer of p-tert-butylphenol bridged with 4 sulfide bonds, was sulfonated to give a water-soluble thiacalix[4]arenetetrasulfonic acid(TCAS). An H NMR study showed that TCAS encapsulates organic molecules such as trihalomethane into the cavity in water. Moreover we achieved quantitative removal of halogenated organic compounds (e.g. chloroform, dichloromethane) from aqueous solution. (author abst.)
