| Abstract; For chemically understanding the role of sugar in biological processes, we prepared and characterized the sugar cluster model. We adopted calix[4]resorcarene as basic skeleton for designing of the sugar cluster. We evaluated interaction of sugar cluster with silica gel and immobilized lectin as polar solid surfaces in water. Sugar cluster adsorpted on the silica gel surfaces or immobilized lectin in water. On the other hand, this sugar cluster bind to guest molecules. In the presence of sugar cluster, guests are co-adsoption on the these polar surfaces together with sugar cluster. In conclusion, (1) it demonstrated a remarkable sugar cluster effect; (2) the dual roles of the sugar cluster as a hosts well as adsorbate specifically lead to a novel solution-to-surface molecular transportor or delivery system.
