Abstract; The porphyrins which have the charged peripheral substituents make aggregates with the ones with the opposite charges in aqueous solutions. The stoichiometry and the stability of the aggregates were analyzed with the fluorescence titration. The heterotrimer which consists of 2 molecules of cationic porphyrin and 1 molecule of anionic porphyrin is stable in aqueous solutions. In some conditions the heterotrimer is the major species which presents in the solution. The factor which control the stability of the heterodimer or -trimer was analyzed. The stability was largely dependent on the properties of the central metal atoms. The photo-chemical and electrochemical properties of the heterodimers/-trimers were also studied. (author abst.)
