Abstract;Reactivity of each OH group in carbohydrates was compared by treatment of unprotected carbohydrates with eletrophiles. Appropriate reaction condition was investigated to detect subtle differences such as hydrogen bonding as sensitively as possible. It was found that secondary hydroxyl groups at 3 and 4 position of glucose have higher reactivity than a primary hydroxyl group at 6 position. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding between neighboring OH groups of glucose seems to play an important role. (author abst.)
