| Abstract; We examined the accuracy of performance in video-mediated communication task, in which a pair of subjects tried to communicate an emotional message (a brief description of basic emotions and emotion-elicited situation) by facial expressions. Nine familiar and 9 unfamiliar pairs of subjects were participated in the experiment. A sender expressed an emotional message by facial expression and a receiver observed it through a TV monitor and chose a candidate item from a list of fourteen descriptions. The results showed that the messages related with happy and surprise emotions were relatively easy to communicate while those related with sad and fear emotions were often misjudged with different emotional messages.
