Abstract;Using a facial expression tool, this study examined the effects of partial and configural information on recognition of a false smile to conceal negative emotions. In the experiment 1, information used to judge a smile was investigated using synthesized facial images. In the experiment 2, the facial information used to distinguish a false smile from a felt smile was studied. The results showed that the images of a smile depends on configural information, and that the information used to distinguish a false smile from a felt smile are affected by partial information. These findings suggested the importance of partial information as well as configural information in recognition of a false smile. (author abst.)
