Abstract;Disilanes are prepared whose substituents are configurationally fixed into gauche or anti by two carbon tethers. Condensation oligomerization of these disilanes affords gauche-anti-alternating and all-anti oligosilanes. The wavelength of UV absorption maxima of gauche-anti-alternating oligosilanes is found to be constant irrespective of the chain length. The absorbance of all-anti oligosilanes, on the other hand, is found to increase dramatically with the elongation of chain length accompanied by the red shift. (author abst.)
