Abstract;Co(L)(C3S5)(L=.ETA.5-C5H5 and .ETA.5-C5Me5) react with 0.5 molar amount of bromine in dichloromethane to afford the one-electron oxidized species Co(L)(C3S5)Br. They were disproportionated to the original species Co(L)(C3S5) and the further oxidized species Co(L)(C3S5)Br2 in solution. The reaction rates were determined. X-ray crystal structure analysis of Co(.ETA.5-C5Me5)-(C3S5)Br revealed one-dimensional molecular interaction array among the C3S5-ligand moieties through S-S non-bonded contacts(<3.8.ANGS.). The complex exhibits a strong antiferromagnetic interaction in the solid state, although it is essentially an insulator. (author abst.)
