| Abstract;2-Quinolyl-2,2'-(5,5'-dicarboethoxydipyrryl)methane (LH2) gave a stable trinuclear mixed-valence complex (L2Cu3-A) in which a triangle [Cu3]+4 cluster with Cu-Cu distances of 2.574(3),2.596(2), and 2.597(2).ANGS. is sandwiched between two tripodal ligands. A seven-line ESR spectrum (g=2.141,ACu=53G in benzene-CH2Cl2 solution) indicates that an unpaired electron is delocalized over the two structurally equivalent Cu sites ligated by two anionic pyrrole nitrogens and two carbonyl oxygens. An isomer (L2Cu3-B) as a byproduct shows a four-line ESR signal (g=2.140,ACu=87G). This is consistent with the structure in which one tripodal ligand in the arrangement of L2Cu3-A undergoes one third turn with respect to the other ligand. (author abst.) |
