Abstract;The environment Agency had examined the guidelines for soil and groundwater contamination measures, made the above-mentioned 2 guidelines and notified them in November, 1994 from the Director of its Water Quality Bureau to prefectures, cities designated by the government ordinance of the Water Pollution Control Lawand ministries and agencies concerned. This paper presents characteristics, application range and utilization of the guidelines, and the outline of such items as their purpose, applicable substances, investigation, treatment measuresand the confirmation investigation of the effects of the measures and emergency measures in the treatment measures.
