| Abstract;This paper examines the reasons of that the investigation of the causes of ground transformation due to excavation is very difficult, and indicates the importance of accumulation of many data concerning ground transformation to select the optimum countermeasure-work. The paper describes the history of efforts of the Bureau of Construction of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government for environmental control due to construction activities, and presnts the details ofthe ground transformation surveys in the " manual of environmental surveys due to construction" which has been made by the bureau in 1972 and then revised 6 times. Treatment of ground transformation and countermeasure works in the design standards concerning land-slide protection walls in Japan are explained to some extent. |
