Abstract; We are developing a system that helps the deaf to communicate with hearing people. This system synthesizes computer graphics animation of Japanese sign language based on the method of describing sign language word. We improved the original system by adding mouth-shapes and various functions. The evaluation experiment for the deaf indicates that they can understand 91.5% (before improvement: 63.5%) of animated 118 sign language words. (author abst.)
