| Abstract; We analyzed the results of recently performed combined operation (trabeculotomy and extracapsular cataract extraction or phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation) on 22 eyes of 18 patients with glaucoma and cataract in our institution. The subject patients were aged 41 to 80 years, average 68.2 years at surgery. Types of glaucoma in the patients' eyes were primaty open-angle glaucoma in 17 eyes, capsular glaucoma in 3 eyes, secondary open-angle glaucoma in one eye and primary angle-closure glaucoma in one eye. The length of follow-up ranged from 2 to 60 months, average 29.6 months. The average intraocular pressure(IOP) level decreased from 23.3mmHg at the preoperation to 14.0mmHg at the one month to end of follow-up. The visual acuity improved in almost all cases, and the improvement in the visual field was detected in some cases. No serious complications were observed in or after operation, except for hyphema and temporal IOP elevation. These results provide a satisfactory evaluation on the combined operation. The Kaplan-Meier analysis, however, showed that the decreasing ratio of IOP below 16mmHg would be 50% after 4 years of operation, indicating a careful consideration on the selection of the surgical procedures on the patients.
