Abstract; This article introduces the hydrocarbon gas recovery equipment "IDESORB (trademark)", developed by Idemitsu Engineering, Co. Ltd., which efficiently recovers hydrocarbon vapour emitted on shipment of gasoline. IDESORB employs adsorption process and hydrophobic silica (incombustibile) for the adsorbent. The flow chart of this process is shown. The features of IDESORB are described on the following points: (1) adsorbent, (2) safety, and (3) operability (unmanned automatic operation). On (1), it is explained that the filler silica gel is given hydrophobicity by a treatment to adsorb hydrocarbon selectively. On (2), the management of the adsorber due to adsorption and desorption heat is described. In addition, the operation record in a refinery is also mentioned.
