Abstract;Toshiba Corp. carried out a demonstration test at a pilot plant for the practical application of the liquefaction processing technology by the heat treatment of thermoplastics containing polyvinylchloride. A continuous dechlorination equipment, a decomposition tank, an oil generation tower, and a residue discharger were developed to perform the liquefaction of waste plastic. A dechlorination rate of 95 to 97% was achieved using a screw under the optimally controlled conditions of temperature, rotational speed, residence time, and pressure. Besides a desalination rate of 98 to 99% in total was achieved by the dechlorination in a melting tank and the volatilization of hydrogen chloride. The phthalic anhydride recovery process was given at the stage prior to hydrogen chloride absorption equipment, and about several hundred ppm of hydrochloric acid was produced with organic substances. In this liquefaction processing system, the gas generated from a decomposition tank is recovered without depolymerization, and the generated oil contains components from heavy oil to kerosene.
