Abstract; The case of an 81-year-old man with primary malignant lymphoma of the prostate showing a complete response to CHOP therapy and radiotherapy, is reported. The patient visited our hospital complaining of weight loss. He was hospitalized because of bilateral hydronephrosis. Digital examination revealed a nodulatedly enlarged prostate adhering to the surrounding tissue. Biopsy of the prostate indicated malignant lymphoma of the diffuse large B-cell type. Because no evidence of distant metastasis was observed, he was diagnosed as having primary malignant lymphoma of the prostate. Then CHOP therapy (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisolone) was performed for 2 cycles at about 60% of the usual dose, followed by irradiation at 54Gy. His prostate was markedly diminished in size and has shown no recurrence for 1 year after treatment. This very rare case of malignant lymphoma of the prostate, regardless of whether it was primary or secondary, is thought to be the 23rd such case in Japan. (author abst.)
