| Abstract; The clinical efficacy of anethole trithione(Felviten) were examined in 81 patients with hyposalivation caused by senile hypofunction(3 men and 34 women), medications(8 men and 17 women), oral cancer therapy(3 men and 4 women), iron-deficiency anemia(7 women) and distressed mental condition, anxious neurosis(2 men and 3 women). Two tablets of Felviten were orally administered every after meal(6 tablets per day) for at least one month, and both nonstimulated salivary flow rate(SFR) and stimulated SFR were estimated using a simple estimation method. Not only nonstimulated SFR but also stimulated SFR significantly increased from 0.91.+-.0.68 and 6.85.+-.4.10 to 1.33.+-.1.03(p<0.001) and 8.69.+-.4.85(p<0.002), respectively. Corresponding with the increase of salivation, oral discomforts and inflammation were rapidly improved or disappeared in 53 patients(65.4%) and 44 patients(54.3%), respectively. Severe side effects were not observed although flatus was complained in a few patients. These results indicate that Felviten sufficiently stimulates salivation and improves the oral distress caused by hyposalivation. (author abst.) |
