Abstract; We analyzed the statistical profiles of uveitis patients at the Jichi Medical School Hospital in order to investigate the current trends of uveitis patients. Approximatery 3.0% of all eye patients(50,136) who visited the clinic between January 1997 and December 1997 were uveitis patients. First-visit patients accounted for 89 or 2.2% of all first-visit patients. After the ophthalmologic examinations and laboratory testing, 83.7% of these patients were classifield into certain categories. Sarcoidosis, Behcet's disease, and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease, consisted of almost two thirds of all cases. Comparing our results to previous analyses, overall trends were comparable. To obtain an improved visual outcome with specific therapies, further improvements in diagnosing uveitis patients are imperative. (author abst.)
