| Abstract; We report a case of interstitial keratitis which occurred after varicella and mumps in a 3-year-old girl. One month before the initial consultation, she was diagnosed with varicella, and then with mumps 3 week later. She had photophobia, ocular pain and hyperemia in the right eye. At the initial examination, her right eye showed ciliary injection and disciform corneal stromal opacity. Antibiotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAID) were instilled, but corneal opacity increased. Steroids and aciclovir were administrted, but with the appearance of corneal edema, predonizolone was given. Corneal edema then decreased rapidly. There was resistance to usual treatment and steroids were required. 10 months after the crisis, the patient is being treated by observation and instillation of steroids and aciclovir. Keratitis mainly infiltrated the disciform corneal stroma. We concluded that the interstitial keratitis was caused by varicella. (author abst.) |
