| Abstract;Patients with sexually transmitted diseases(STD) were surveyed in the urological hospitals within Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. During the period between January 1995 and December 1997, the number of STD patients was 1,167 (male: 1,102, female: 65). The frequent diseases among the males were chlamydial infection (33.7%), gonorrhea (27.7%) and non-gonococcal-nonchlamydial urethritis (24.1%). Among the females, chlamydial infection was present in 52.9%. The frequent sources of infection among the males were "girl friends" (lovers or friends, 36.7%), commerical sex workers (CSW, 28.1%) and casual-sex partners (18.6%). Among the patients infected from CSW, there was a gradual increase in the number of patients infected through oral sex only. The most frequent source of infection among the females was "boy friends" (lovers of friends, 50.1%). (author abst.) |
