Abstract; We report a case of renal cell carcinoma in von Hippel-Lindau disease associated with polycythemia vera. A 39-year-old woman who had been suffering from polycythemia vera visited our hospital because of dizziness. Head CT revealed hemangioblastoma of the cerebellum, and abdominal CT showed bilateral renal cell carcinoma up to the size of 4cm. One month after removal of the hemangioblastoma, we performed a unilateral partial nephrectomy. The histologic findings demonstrated low-grade and low-stage renal cell carcinoma. She had no complications during or after the operation. We realized that this patient was the first case of renal cell carcinoma in von Hippel-Lindau disease associated with polycythemia vera, and we herein discuss the treatment of renal cell carcinoma in von Hippel-Lindau disease.
