Abstract;A 61-year-old woman presented with the chief complaints of lower abdominal and right back pain. Excretory urogram showed right hydronephrosis. Computerized tomogram(CT) revealed a tumor-like mass (10.5*5.3*10cm) in the pelvis which involved the uterus, right ureter and intestine. She was hospitalized with ileus as an emergency patient and underwent surgery under the diagnosis of carcinoma of the uterus body or sarcoma of the uterus. However, at operation severe fibrosis occupying the whole minor pelvis was found and the mass was unable to be excised. A rapid histopathological examination of the specimen showed to malignant findings, but simply fibrotic tissue. We concluded that the mass had resulted from idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis and began steroid therapy with prednisolone. For two weeks of therapy the patient was free from ileus and abdominal pain. The pelvic mass decreased significantly and excretory urogram showed the hydronephrosis was improved. (author abst.)
