Abstract;Treatment of 2,3,3-trifluoro-1-propenyl p-toluenesulfonate in the presence of sodium hydroxide in a mixed solvent of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)-water (H2O) (1:1) at room temperature result in successful generation of .ALPHA.-fluoromalonaldehyde sodium salt, which readily reacts with acid chlorides to give the corresponding (Z)-.BETA.-acyloxy-.ALPHA.-fluoroacrylaldehydes in good to excellent yields.
