Abstract;Treatment of conjugated gem-difluorodienes bearing an aryl group with sulfonic acid promotes intermolecular Friedel-Crafts cyclizations via .ALPHA.-fluorocarbocations to afford bicyclic enones or naphthol derivatives. The tandem sequence of the Friedel-Crafts cyclizations successfully affords fused tetracyclic compounds in one-pot operation. Furthermore, the tetracyclic product can be converted into [4]helicene system via dehydrogenation. (author abst.)
