Abstract;Natural graphite powder (.IDN.7.MU.m) was fluorinated by elemental fluorine (3*104Pa) at 80-500.DEG.C. for 2 or 10 minutes. Surface fluorine concentrations were 4.0-14.6% for 2 min-fluorinated samples and 7.1-18.1% for 10 min-fluorinated ones. XPS revealed that C-F bonding was semi-ionic. Surface-fluorinated graphite samples showed the higher reversible capacities of 380-400 mAhg-1 than that of pristine graphite, 360 mAhg-1. (author abst.)
