| Abstract;Utilization of inert toxic fluorous (perfluorinated) solvents as substitutes for the toxic and/or harmful reaction media, such as CH2Cl2, was investigated. For this purpose, Lewis acid promoted/catalyzed reactions which are of great current interest due to unique reactivities and selectivities, were performed in fluorinated media in place of CH2Cl2. Hosomi-Sakurai reaction and Friedel-Crafts acylation were carried out and fluorous liquids were turned out to be good alternative reaction media. Further, recycling the solvent was also investigated. As they are extremely immixible with water and most organic solvents, fluorous solvents could be recovered by a simple extractive work-up. Fluorinated liquids thus recovered were reused without any further purification and reactions proceeded successfully as the first run. These results suggest the possibility of construction of ecologically as well as economically favorable chemical process. (author abst.) |
