Abstract;The role of metal mold in manufacturing is pointed out. The following are described : Application of CAD/CAM to the design and manufacturing technology of metal mold, trends in the three-dimensional handling and the integration of CAD, support of CAD/CAM by CAE, speedup and function enhancement of CAM for die machining data, CAT=Reverse Engineering in metal mold manufacturing. Optical modeling technology for metal mold manufacturing and techniques supporting the maintenance and management for metal mold are also shown.
