Abstract;Korsakoff syndrome resulting from thalamic infarction is reported. A 78-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of the acute onset of consciousness disturbance. Next day, her consciousness became clear and Korsakoff syndrome was detected by the examination of higher brain function. Brain MRI revealed an infarction of dorsomedial nucleus in the left thalamus. 123I-IMP SPECT study showed a reduction of blood flow in the left frontal and temporal lobe. These lesions were included in Yakovlev's circuit. Thus we suppose that Korsakoff syndrome has a relationship with a collapse of Yakovlev's circuit. (author abst.)
