| Abstract;Fluvastatin(XU62-320) in a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. Effects of this agent on serum lipids were examined in rats and beagle dogs in comparison with those of the analogous drugs, pravastatin and simvastatin. Rats received fluvastatin at dosage levels of 2.5 and 10mg/kg and pravastatin or simvastatin at dosage level of 20mg/kg. Beagle dogs received fluvastatin at dosage levels of 1.5 and 8mg/kg and pravastatin or simvastatin at a dosage level of 1.5mg/kg. Each drug was given to animals orally for 4 weeks. In the fluvastatin groups, there were an increase in LDL-cho. in rats and decreases in T. cho., HDL-cho., TG, and PL in beagle dogs. These changes were also found in the pravastatin or simvastatin groups. These results suggest that fluvastatin(XU62-320) has almost the same activity as those of the existing HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. (author abst.) |
