Abstract;Several numbers of the symposia on the environmental radioactivity were held in Japan in these few years, suggesting us the activity on environmental radioactivity studies are still active in Japan. Radon and radioactive materials are the major concern to the environmental radioactivity researchers. However, the interested areas are so wide and it is difficult to summarize. Radioactive fallout in the environment from the nuclear testings is an important field on the environmental radioactivity, the knowledge on the movement of radionuclide in the ocean, atmosphere as well as biosphere progresses the understanding of the environmental radioactivity. The Chernobyl accident occurred in 1986 gives the researchers a new field of the environmental activity study, which is behavior of radionuclides in the forest ecosystem. To understand and predict the fate of radionuclides that were released in the environment, it would be necessary to use environmental mathematical model. Recent research in Japan seems to be focused on development of the environmental model, especially tritium study. However, reliable values of parameters in the model are not sufficient. (author abst.)
