| Abstract;Variation of characteristics of the two fission modes, symmetric and asymmetric fission, in the chart of nuclides is systematically studied. The bimodal fission observed in the spontaneous fission of the heavy actinides is interpreted as the presence of the two fission paths of the ordinary asymmetric mode and a strongly shell-influenced symmetric one. Gross properties of fission in superheavy nuclei are predicted. (author abst.) |
