| Abstract;Chemical behavior of positive muons in condensed phase ammonia was investigated. Neat ammonia and two solutions(0.08% and 1.5%) of metal sodium were used as samples. No muonium formation was observed in liquied phase samples. Higher diamagnetic muon yield was obtained as the sodium concentration increased. Ammoniated electrons could prompt the formation of diamagnetic muon species and inhibit the stable existence of muonium. In solid phase we observed clear muonium signal up to several micro seconds. In solid ammonia muonium is farely stable and its yield 18% is much lower than that in ice. Diamagnetic muon fraction in solid ammonia showed slow spin relaxation with Kubo-Toyabe function. Hopping rate of diamagnetic species was concluded to be slow. (author abst.) |
