Abstract;Negative pion transfer from hydrogen to deuterium in H2+D2 gas mixtures will provide important and basic information concerned with the mechanism of the transfer process. The previous data, however, have included too large uncertainties to quantitatively discuss the mechanism. We then tried to determine more precise transfer parameters in the .PI.AX experiments. The samples measured were the gas mixtures of H2+D2 at various concentrations (10% to 80%) and at the pressure of 45kgf/cm2 and 15kgf/cm2. The measurements for .PI.0-decay events (indicating a pion absorption by proton) were performed at the .PI..MU.-channel of the 12-GeV proton synchrotron in KEK. The transfer parameters were obtained as .LAMBDA.=0.50.+-.0.05 and .KAPPA.=0.92.+-.0.15 from the dependence of the capture probability in hydrogen on the hydrogen concentration. The obtained values were close to "World fit" in the previous data. (author abst.)
