Abstract;Carbon-11, which is produced by charged-particle and photonuclear reaction, is short-lived positoron emitter. In order to separate11C rapidly and selectively, a continuous extraction and detection system was developed. A irradiated sample was oxidized in a infrared furnace and CO2 gas was extracted into aminoethanol solution. Radioactivity of 11C was continuously monitored with a coincidence counting system. This method was applied to the determination of carbon in steel by PAA. The good linear relationship between the carbon amount and the radioactivity of 11C was obtained. The micro-gram amount of carbon could be easily determined. (author abst.)
