Abstract; To investigate new subject matter for woodworking, the weaving of barks from Sugi wood (Japanese cedar) was tested for making various woodcrafts. Bark was sanded with a sanding machine, and the sanded bark strips were arranged lengthwise and crosswise. They were woven into flat materials, which were processed in several woodcrafts, such as coasters, trays, tapestries and lampshades. Weaving bark was not too difficult for the students and they seemed to find it interesting. From these experiences, it is felt that weaving bark for woodcrafts is a suitable subject matter for wood processing in junior high school. (author abst.)
