Abstract;Degradability of two types of biodegradable plastics, that is, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydoroxyvalerate) and a starch/polyvinyl alcohol composite were evaluated by means of spectrophotometric analyses. The molded dumbbell specimens of these plastics were soaked in a aeration tank for 6 months and were subjected to mainly surface degradation by the activated sludge. The spectrophoptometric analyses of the raw and soaked specimens were made by photo-acoustic spectrometry(PAS) and 13C-solid state NMR. From the results obtained, the degradabilities of two materials were discussed. (author abst.)
