| Abstract;One of the common remarkable feature of P450 and NOS is that the heme iron has a thiolate coordination. Recently, the presence of NH...S hydrogen bond has been discussed in the active site of P450 and NOS based on the analysis of their crystal structure. In order to clarify the function of NH...S hydrogen bond in enzyme reaction, we synthesized a novel Fe(III)porphyrin-alkanethiolate complex with intramolecular NH...S hydrogen bond. This complex was well characterized by X-ray crystal structure analysis and its electrochemical, spectroscopic, and catalytic feature was investigated. These results indicate that the NH...S hydrogen bond stabilizes Fe(III)porphyrin-alkanethiolate structure, shifts the redox potential to more positive potential, and strongly influences its catalytic activity.
