Abstract;Dinuclear iron carboxylate catalyzing hydroxylation of hydrocarbon was synthesized on an inner surface of mesoporous silica. Oxidation of hydrocarbon was achieved in the presence of oxygen and reductant. Cyclohexane yielded only cyclohexanol, and hexane gave three hexanols along with a trace amount of ketones. Hydrogen peroxide was also effective for the reaction, however the formation of a significant amount of ketones was observed. The reaction mechanism seems to be closely related with that of methane monooxygenase. The structure of catalytic center, oxidation profile and improvement of the catalytic activity were discussed based on the comparison with that of enzyme. (author abst.)
