Abstract;We synthesized novel water-soluble tetraphenylporphyrins(TPPs) linked with oligosaccharide, one to four maltohexaosyl chains. They showed extremely high water-solubility comparing with mono or disaccharide conjugated porphyrins. Furthermore, photocytotoxic properties of the compounds toward HeLa cell were evaluated by MTT assay method. In TPPs linked with one chain, higher activity was obtained, while the others did not show sufficient photocytotoxicity. This result indicated that the balance of hydrophilicity and lipophlicity was an important factor for incorporation of drugs into cell. (author abst.)
