Abstract;Pebp2.ALPHA.A/Cbfa1, a transcription factor is a differentiation determinant for multipotent undifferentiated mesenchymal cells to differentiate to osteoblastic cell series. It also acts on maturation of osteoblastic cells and regulation of substrate protein production related to calcification of matured osteoblastic cells, and is involved in differentiation to cartilage cells and osteoclasts, and in development of teeth. This paper first outlines its genome structure and expression, and next its relation to differentiation of cartilage cells and osteoblastic cells, and to occurrence of cleidocranial dysplasia, which have been elucidated by the results using knockout mice.
