Abstract; This paper introduces recent knowledges on the molecular structure and the functional characteristics of PEBP2 especially as a tissue-specific transcription factor. PEBP2/CBF is a hetero-dimer composed of .ALPHA. subunit which binds to DNA and of .BETA. subunit which binds to non-DNA molecule. The space structures of Runt domain in .ALPHA. subunit and of .BETA. subunit have recently been determined by NMR analyses. It is proven that Runt domain has the structure of S type immunoglobulin folding composed of .BETA. sheet structure as a frame, and .ALPHA. subunit is composed of many functional modules which are complicatedly influencing each other.
