| Abstract; The alkali metal thermal to electric converter(AMTEC) system utilizes the sodium ion conductivity of beta"-alumina solid electrolyte(BASE) to convert thermal energy directly into electric energy. The present paper describes an advanced thermal generating system for space application with the AMTEC cells approximately 2kWe in size. This AMTEC power generating system is expected to have a high conversion efficiency(23%), lightweight and high system reliability. The concept of wick pumped type AMTEC cells incorporated into the solar receiver has been preliminary designed. The experimental result of the AMTEC cell is also described. (author abst.) |
