Abstract;Plastid-dividing ring was discovered as a part of dividing apparata in the outside of chloroplast-dividing face of Cyanidium caldarium in 1986. It was found that FtsZ protein which was involved with prokaryotic cell division was also involved with chloroplast division in 1998. However, it is not known yet how FtsZ protein is involved with chloroplast-dividing apparatus. This paper outlines the following items: 1) superfine structures of chloroplast-dividing apparata, 2) analyses on kinetic formation and contraction of chloroplasts, 3) analyses by using mutants for chloroplast division, 4) present state and prospects of functional analyses of ftsZ gene in eukaryotic cells.
