Abstract;Primary transcripts in a chloroplast take various processes generally called RNA processing such as the strand breakage of precursor RNA, its 3' end formation, RNA splicing, and RNA editing, and mature to be mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA with respective functions. In addition to these steps to mature, the gene expression is being regulated at translational level, and at the stability/dissociation processes of mRNA. Recent knowledges on post-transcriptional regulation of chloroplast gene expression are reviewed here by focusing on the chloroplast genes of tobacco, of which genetic transformation technology and in vitro cell culture system have been developed.
