| Abstract;A 61-year-old male developed impaired visual acuity and foreign-body sensation in his right eye. He was referred to us after failure of cornea-protective eyedrops for corneal epithelial lesions. He was free of allergic manifestations in the past and family histories. Both eyes showed superficial punctate keratopathy and the right eye showed infiltrations in the cornea. Giant papillae and fibrous hypertrophic tissue were present. Conjunctival scrapings showed numerous eosinophils. Radioallergosorbent test showed elevated serums level of specific IgE to mite, house dust and mold. These clinical and laboratory findings led to the diagnosis of vernal keratoconjunctivitis in spite of his advanced age. (author abst.) |
