| Abstract; We treated three cases of central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) by vitrectomy. The patients were aged 69, 83 and 51 years respectively. Vitrectomy was performed 7, 6 and 30 hours after onset of CRAO respectively. Following core vitrectomy, gentle pressure was applied using a soft tapered needle with the perfusion pressure kept lowered. Fluorescein angiography showed shortening of retinal circulation times after surgery in all the cases. The visual acuity improved from no light perception to 0.06, from hand motion to 0.03 and from finger counting to 0.01 respectively. These cases illustrate the effectiveness of early-stage vitrectomy for CRAO. (author abst.) |
